I first told this story on my Saturday night show back in December of 2008 and have had many requests to hear it again. So, I'll include it on my blog for your reading amusement.
The story: When I was anywhere from 10 to 13 years of age my dad would wake me up every Saturday morning during the summer very early and make me go fishing. Now, don't misunderstand, I loved spending time with my dad, I just didn't like fishing. I loved hunting, but not fishing. But, it became a chore for him because he had purchased a brand new bate caster rod and reel for me to use. This particular type of reel was not easy to use. When you cast it you must be prepared and skilled enough to stop the reel from spinning at just the right moment so it didn't continue spinning and create a mess. Well, you guessed it. I was neither prepared or skilled enough to stop the reel and a mess was created several times. Each time it happened I would spend a little time trying to fix it myself, but soon realized I couldn't do it. So, I would hand the reel to my dad and he would fix the mess for me and then hand it back to me. This happened so often that I thought he would get angry with me if it happened again, but each time he would fix the mess and hand it back to me.
That's kind of how it is with God. We try very hard to do it right, but we make a mess and then try and fix it ourselves. Some of us never realize that all we have to do is just hand it over to God and let him fix the mess. That's called surrender. None of what we have is our own. It's all God's anyway. So, the next time you find yourself in a mess and trying despirately to fix it yourself, remember just hand it over to God and allow him to fix it for you. Surrender will change your life forever. Trusting in Jesus Christ today will change your life forever.
God bless,
